The Lancashire Nobby originated in Morecambe Bay and Southport and was used form the 1840s. In the 19th century Southport was expanding as a coastal town and the visitor appetite for shellfish grew. The Lancashire Nobby was adapted to suit conditions of the area and meet the growing demand to trawl for shrimp.
