Rafael Sabatini was a creative writer and responsible for at least 31 novels, which usually involved an historical setting, political intrigue, honour and chivalry. Many of his novels were made into Hollywood blockbuster films such as Captain Blood, Scaramouche and The Sea Hawk, featuring famous actors from a golden age of film Errol Flynn, Stewart Granger, Janet Leigh and Olivia de Havilland. He was born in Italy of an Italian father and English mother and spoke both languages fluently. When he visited Liverpool he lived at Station Road Maghull, which was owned by him or a relative. |
