Holy Trinity was built to meet the growing demands of the community, and Revd Lonsdale Formby donated land for the church. The construction began with the foundation stone in 1889 and the church opened for worship in 1890. However, the church was not complete and the following year fundraising began. The first Vicar of Holy Trinity Revd J.B Richardson and he engaged his cousin, the famous Irish entertainer Percy French who gave concerts to raise additional funds. The income generated from Percy’s generous support and community fundraising allowed for all the changes, and a parish hall which opened in 1909. |
