A Southport shrimping fisherman outside a cottage.
Comments
Shrimp fishing from Southport beaches dates back to the 18th century. The early fishing practice used a net to haul the catch or a line attached to a stake in the sand. Brown Shrimps were plentiful and the industry started to grow. The process dragged the net along the sea bed, and the contents of the net were sorted and put in a basket which the shrimper carried on their back.
